About Tabernacle of Faith Community Outreach Center & Its History

The Tabernacle of Faith Community Outreach Center was founded in 1996 by Pastor Oliver S. Robinson and his wife Jesse Robinson. They felt called by God to reach people in need whether if they were homeless, hungry or needed clothing. Their inspiration was the scriptures in Matthew 25:35-40.

Beginning with donated items to build a mobile soup kitchen trailer they began feeding the hungry in the downtown area of Elizabeth City, NC. A local property owner heard what the Robinsons were doing and offered the use of a home on S. Road Street to operate the soup kitchen and a homeless shelter. More than 500 women and children have been sheltered in this house over the years.

The Shelter for Women and Children on S. Road Street is permitted by the City of Elizabeth City to house up to ten women and children at a time. It also houses the Soup Kitchen which is staffed by volunteer groups from partner churches and organizations. When available life and job skills classes are offered at this location.

Mission

Our mission is simple: To positively change one life at a time by showing the love of Jesus Christ. We change the lives of men, women and children by meeting physical, emotional and spiritual needs by working together as one body of Christ.

Vision

Our vision is to be the premier service provider in assisting those in need in the greater Albemarle Region. We want to be more than just a shelter and soup kitchen. We aim to provide shelter, training services, food, clothing, mentoring and transition services to those in prison, and comfort to the sick.
